Find the Tear - Mindful Writing Challenge

Awake suddenly in predawn darkness. Flames in the bedroom fireplace cast flickering shadows. Into my mind comes a phrase that has haunted me all week, "you can't mend until you find the tear." I concentrate on what this might mean, but any literal interpretation eludes me. Now, in the afternoon, I probe for meaning once again. I google the phrase, thinking maybe I read it somewhere. But, nothing matches. Is it guidance or warning? I'm sure I won't forget. If I ever find the tear, I'll tell you. And I'll start to mend.

  1. How interesting, I hope you discover it's meaning! And I do envy you that bedroom fireplace.... :-)

  2. If you can't tear, perhaps it means there is nothing to mend. Perhaps one small part of you (or maybe one of your readers) was looking for something to mend. But now we can put away our scissors and thread. :)

  5. Yes, I understand it so well, and mending can be literal, or understanding, or life changing, and one tear at a time is ample.Cheers from Jean

  6. Finding the tear sounds like an interesting challenge. The meaning may be close to the srface yet still elude you. Or you may have subconsciously buried it deep.

  7. Somehow reminds me of the Leonard Cohen song, 'there is a crack in everything...that's how the light gets through.....'. Maybe you don't want to fix the tear?

  9. I like what Sallie said. I do however hope that if there is a tear it mends itself. Speaking of healing - I hope the frost bite is healing. I do wonder if the close call you had a few years ago weighs a bit on your mind when things like frostbite take longer to heal than expected. Thinking of you. Again I love the image that is with your writing-it appears that statue is pondering for you.

  10. You write your way out of this. But not every tear requires healing. Sometimes a tear can lead to creative ideas.

  11. Finding the "tear" could be just an encouragement to keep searching. I love following your quests and wonder if what needs to be mended simply needs a bit more gentle attention? Your fallen man on the Embarcadero is winking and smiling (seems to me). So, maybe it is not such a serious "tear" that awaits.

  12. I like Sallie's Cohen quote, - it is a great comfort when we must accept our imperfections.
