Old Age - A River of Stones

I wouldn't want to be young again. My weathered facade is well-earned. I lean a bit, swayback. My ancient bones are thinning. I'm more open, accessible. Strangers and varmints intrude on my space. The barriers and signs that once meant "keep out," are now flimsy and mostly disregarded.  Privacy is a thing of the past. Oh, I've seen some sights in my day, overheard plenty of conversations. If you have the time, I can tell you some tales. I'm of a certain age, but I've endured. I have my self-respect. I'm still standing.

  1. Hmmm, it looks like what we would call an outdoor dunny! But has its own beauty nevertheless. I like the way you personify it, with resulting ambiguity. It must be so much like that for many old people too.

    A great story to go with a wonderful photo.

    I think that I'd like to be young again... but not too young. It's nice being comfortable in my own skin in a way that I wasn't when I was "young".

  6. yes, I will bet it could tell some stories.
    When I went to the library this week, I got another Sandra Dallas book set in 1920, in your Ten Mile Range. I haven't started it yet, but the first of the series was good.

  7. I would love hearing some of those tales! I love aging, well except for the knees! You learn some interesting things along the way.

  8. There are definite plusses to aging - a better sense of self. You are so right about openness and no thoughts of what others think.
