Celebrate Blooming

In the waning days of spring, I walk
the trails behind my house in Breckenridge.

In the forest, Heart Leaf Arnica is blooming profusely.

The leaves are covered with a fine yellow pollen from the Lodgepole Pines.

I see aspens hugging an evergreen.

Delicate Violets say a shy hello.

Nearly hidden by the forest ground cover,
the Fairy Slipper Orchid (Calypso) is fading but still lovely.

I lie on the ground to speak to it face to face.

Tomorrow, I'll hike with a friend.
We hope to see more emerging wildflowers.
After a long winter, we celebrate blooming!

  2. I would love to walk your woods with you. Enjoy your springtime...it was far too long in coming. Hope the wild-fires are staying away from your area. When I spoke to my brother on Saturday he said they were about 10 miles from his place (Pagosa Springs).

  4. I'm very surprised that you have lodgepole at your elevation. But, the flowers are gorgeous. I love the arnica (they're going wild here too) and the fairy slippers are divine! I'm glad that spring is finally arriving for you!

  15. I'm always amazed at how quickly growth takes place when snow recedes. These wild flowers must bring sheer delight. I am happy I live in a place where I can appreciate the transient blooms. Each to its season and therefore all the more precious.
