Warm Weather Changes

Today I take a walk in the city. Spring bulbs are starting to sprout green. Crocuses are blooming. It may be a false prelude to spring because there is often cold weather and even snow in Denver through March and April. But, today the sun is shining, and it's warm enough for shirtsleeves. I go to the eyeglass store to look at frames. I have a love/hate relationship with shopping for new glasses. I think of the possible new look(s) that may evolve from my (hopefully prudent) choice.  However, without my actual prescription lenses in the frames, I can barely discern myself in the mirror. The young, hip woman assures me that this or that one looks chic. However, I notice (with my old glasses on) that she may have an entirely different esthetic than I do. (Not to mention, she'd like to sell me something...) So, I tell her to write down two of the frames as "maybe's" and I'll come back with someone whom I trust will tell me how they actually look on me. My husband maybe? Or, perhaps better yet a girlfriend. It's fun to imagine changes that this warmer weather might inspire. Perhaps I'll reinvent myself!

  1. Crocuses - how wonderful! It's thawing over here too, but as it's early March, we'll no doubt have more snow too.

Good luck buying your new frames.

  2. I had to rely on the opinion of the optician and two strangers in the store. Without my glasses I can't see myself in the mirror. I had to get two inches away and that's just plain frightening. That makes you want to get a nice bag for your head as an accessory. Good luck.

  3. How beautiful this sentence is!
It may be a false prelude to spring.....
Prelude always reminds me of many beautiful piano pieces.
I am very pleased to think that spring is coming with beautiful tone color.
I like to think of your new glasses and early spring!

  4. I feel exactly as you do when shopping for glasses, exactly!
When living in Chicago I remember times when it would snow in April. It's much milder down here.

  5. Frame of the glasses affects how we look. When I changed contact lenses to glasses, my friends said I looked more intelligent. I hoped so. When I bought another one with different form and color, I seem to have looked out of my character. Maybe artistic? Enjoy reinventing yourself.

  6. The flowers are beautiful.
I'd take a girlfriend to help pick out new frames.

  7. yes a girlfriend...I made the mistake of letting a very young (very young) very good little sales girl in the dr. office sell me my new frames and $520 later....I am stuck with them for another 3 years...every day until I can justify getting a new pair...this time....I am taking a friend, or husband....(don't do this alone hehehehe) I am such a gullible sucker.....

  8. As long as your glass picking assistant isn't covered with tattoos your probably all set. I do think that glasses can make you look younger or older. Pick the ones that make you look younger!

  9. Nice to see crocuses in bloom. You are smart to take someone you trust with you to get the glasses. :)

  10. The snow is melting here with a couple of above freezing days. I haven't spotted any growth yet - still a bit early so I am very much enjoying these glorious crocuses (or is it croci?).
As to glasses - for years I wore glasses that disappeared into my face. My last selection was totally with the help of one of the women in the optician's store. I have had many compliments. Sometimes you just need a big change.

  11. The crocuses (croci?) are beautiful -- I miss them. I hope you'll follow up and let us know whether you got your new specs....absolutely you MUST take somebody with you -- I have learned by my mistakes in this area.
