Magical Surprise

sometimes ...
it IS worth
the wait

snow squall, second week of June, Breckenridge

Calypso Orchids (Fairy Slipper) blooming in the forest in mid-June while temps went below freezing  and patches of snow were still on the ground

I like to think that looks can be deceiving...

delicate beauty
tiny fragile magical
Calypso Orchid

snow finally melted except for peaks
still glistening white in the sunshine
high altitude summer begins

(small stones)

  7. Sorry, I meant to say "photos' not "poems".

  8. Snow squalls the second week of June should be illegal. We probably had some, too. If not snow--icebergs.

  12. This first photo I remember in winter......and all white! Now the colour softens everything even with a thin layer of snow.
Oh that orchid is beautiful, Barb.....so fragile looking yet very hardy.

  13. Hmmm. A snow squall in June? But then, you are 10.0000 feet above sea level. To tell you the truth, I envy your very long spring. You may call it summer but the wildflowers look like spring to me. ;)

  14. Oh such a sweet flower and such a sweet poem/prose poem. It is colder in Breckenridge than it is in Alaska.

  15. Glorious environment here Barb. Thank you for sharing. (Thanks for stopping by my blog - in answer to your question of whether I would still be in Paris for the finish of the Tour de France: no, I am now back on Australian soil after an amazing 2 months away)
