Before the Snow

late summer at altitude:


dazzling displays of Fireweed


birds departing for warmer climes




last bursts of color


before the purity of white

It's really beautiful in Summit County these days.
The tourists depart for awhile.
Weather is cool and getting colder.
Gardens flourish until hard frost.
Locals smile and call hello.
Abundance and time to enjoy it.

    So many tourists visit Breckinridge ...enjoy the quiet times now, Barb ... soon you shall be enjoying the snow, again and that shall be 'a good thing' .... smiles ...

    Love that picture of the cabin with the Fireweed - it looks very similar to a plant we call Rose Bay Willow Herb - what a mouthful - I prefer the name Fireweed. The season seems to be changing rapidly this year - nice to see you have such an abundance of colour in your part of the world at the moment.

    Such beauty with singular/plural abundance ~~ love your flowers Barb ~~ snow comes all too fast in the altitudes for sure. We are enjoying our "one month to fall day" here with sunny blue skies and snoring Sophie Doodle! Life can't get much better unless of course your touch of the world matters and it most certainly does.

    It's so beautiful right now. Your spring comes late but it seems to last far longer than mine. Fortunately, you love skiing so winter is not the disappointment other people find it to be.

    I feel the first hints of autumn weather coming, too, Barb. It won't be long! The bears are already coming down to our area from the foothills to look for full garbage cans, in order to fatten up for hibernation.

    Oh it's just beautiful. Hooray for 'off-season' and getting rid of those pesky tourists. (If I've spent more than a year in CO -- albeit in chunks here and there -- can I qualify as a non-tourist?) According to Alaska folklore, you have a while yet until Winter. We've seen some fireweed up here totally bloomed out -- to the top and past -- and we are thinking it is definitely time to start for home (to Oregon).
