A Rocky Mountain Spring

Seasons change subtly at high altitude.
Winter has the starring role
with summer edging onto the stage
for a few brief months.
Spring and fall barely have speaking roles.

Though spring is nominally here,
winter still takes command.

Days are longer and temperatures slowly rise.
Though snow melts, it also continues to fall.

Welcome to my Rocky Mountain spring!

I wrote a post about blogging on
I'd enjoy your feedback.

Promise in the Air

a soft filter of light
quiet afternoon shadows
spring inching forward

More snow is in the forecast, but the melt/freeze cycle has started. Sunny days soften the snow which refreezes overnight. The quality of light is changing as days become longer. The evergreens seem to stretch and breath deeply after the long, cold winter. I'm breathing more deeply, too. There is a promise brought by the warmth of the sun. Wherever you are, I hope you feel that promise, too.

Vail Village and Meeting a Genius

covered bridge, Vail Village

a day at Vail
skiing in the morning
lunch and people-watching in the afternoon

on a quiet side street
Einstein was relaxing
face raised to the sun

he didn't seem to mind my company
here's what he told me:

"I never think of the future. It comes soon enough."

"If A is success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z.
Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut."

"Anyone who has never made a mistake
has never tried anything new."

"Not everything that counts can be counted,
and not everything that can be counted counts."

"The difference between stupidity and genius
is that genius has its limits."

"if you can't explain it simply,
you don't understand it well enough."

Wow - I'm glad I had this chance meeting!
(musing about these ideas is my One Good Thing)
