Mariposa Lily

hearing thunder
watching and waiting
smiling as rain falls
dripping through evergreens
quenching a parched earth

Mariposa Lily after rain

This morning, I checked if the Mariposa Lilies were blooming near West Ice Arena in Breckenridge. The ground was still damp from last night's rain. Wildflowers looked fresh in the filtered light of the forest. I'm still practicing with my magnifier lens. These photos are handheld - I'm finding it difficult to stay still enough when I press the shutter. But, the Lilies were creamy and lovely to behold! These delicate lilies grow for a brief time in early summer. Even though they've been stressed by the unusual dryness, they managed to bloom.
This morning they glistened and glowed in the sunlight.

  12. These photos are exquisite Barb! I hope it has been raining all over Colorado and especially on those wild fires. I was deeply saddened to read about them in another blog earlier this evening.

I've missed catching up on your blog, internet has been spotty, and I've been busy until I fall asleep!

  13. Oh, what joy! Rain and the beautiful Mariposa Lily in bloom. I had forgotten about this magnificent flower...your photo triggered a memory of the pasque flowers blooming on south facing slopes in the beautiful Colorado Rockies. Praying for more rain and less lightning for you.

    1. Thanks, Sandy. Yes, it's the Raynox which I clip to my zoom - really takes some steadiness. However I've seen some amazing shots that others have taken using it!
