Undaunted

I'm undaunted!
I recently attended a lecture by Lauren Springer Ogden, who gave a power point presentation about her newly revised book, The Undaunted Garden.

She spoke about planting for weather-resilient beauty. (She lives in CO but not at high altitude.) I look at the lush photos in my signed copy and think of my own gardens at over 10,000' above sea level. I make little notes to myself. I look at last year's garden photos. I plot strategy. Then, as a reality check, I look out my window...
I guess it's going to be awhile.

But I can still dream.
I'm undaunted!

  1. I saw her a gardening show several years ago, and ordered her book from Amazon. Isn't she inspiring?

Ayah, it is going to be a while until you see flowers there.

We aren't doing much better. I just wrote Carol that it was 38ยบ here. We are supposed to have heavy rain and coastal flooding tonight, but I will bet it starts as snow.

Do you ever have a problem with water running in from the melted snow?

  2. Oh Barb! It's amazing how much snow you still have. We had rain yesterday and today, it's sunny and cool -- a glorious spring day. Tomorrow, more rain. I guess we all have to deal with our own stuff that prevents the gardening bug from becoming an actuality.

Love your garden photo from last year. Look forward to seeing more this year! :)

  3. "Undaunted" is the perfect title for this post!!! I think that those huge piles of snow make the flowers even more precious when they finally emerge.

We finally got some snow but we need much more to keep the fires at bay.

  4. Such a complete transformation between your winter and summer gardens! The plants certainlyu do manage to make up for lost time, though. It's as if they are pumped with extra growth hormones to make up for their shortened season. Hang in there, Barb. The change will come!

  5. Fortunately each season has its own beauty. I cultivate my indoor garden and marvel at each flower that manages to open in our ever-changing April weather. Your turn will come - and as others have said, it makes the flowers that much more precious.

  9. I remember your gardens from last year and although spring comes late it also seems to last for a long time. You had certain blooms in your gardens long after mine had faded. and they were lovely!

  10. That's still a lot of snow, but I like your dream photo, Barb. Spring will come to the mountain in its own good time.

  11. We can't have such lush gardens where we live - it's too dry. So I've discovered the beauty of succulents. So many varieties and colors that continue to amaze me. I really don't miss the flower gardens that I used to have.

You'll have yours in time, Barb. In the meantime enjoy the snow.

  12. It's so great that you don't complain Barb but go on undaunted. I have recently been to the south west of England where there are flowers and blossom in abundance and was heard to complain about gardening in the North!

Your summer garden will be beautiful of course - as the photos show.

Love the bear story in your last post - beautiful writing - it made my hair stand on end

  14. how many months of snow do you have? or I should ask, how many months of UN-SNOW do you have before it starts to snow again?

  15. Well for now Barb, you'll just have to look at those beautiful photos of your flowers and dream awhile longer. So when do you think all that snow will melt? Love Di ♥

  19. Oh gosh, I think if anyone has a reason to be daunted (about gardening) it is you!

I know our kids in just ordinary for Colorado altitude have enough problems with their landscaping.

  20. Glad to hear you're undaunted! It's easy to be daunted when the snow refuses to disappear on schedule like it's suppose to.
